Why Pet Dental?
Dental disease is the most frequently diagnosed health problem for pets. Dogs and cats are particularly prone to tooth and gum diseases. An astounding 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats show signs of oral disease by age 3, according to the American Veterinary Dental Society.
Normal teeth in both dogs and cats should be white or just a little yellow. Gums should be light pink and smooth, except in pets with pigmented gums.
Oral disease begins with a build up of plaque and tarter in your pets mouth. Without proper preventive and therapeutic care, plaque and tarter build up leads to periodontal disease, which manifests in red and/or swollen and tender gums, bad breath and bleeding. When gums are swollen they can be painful - a good rule of thumb is that if it looks like it might be painful, it probably is. Pets are masters at masking pain - when in doubt, assume that your pet is experiencing at least some discomfort.
The inflammation and infection associated with periodontal disease can lead to damage to other organs such as the heart, kidney and liver, and lead to other serious health problems.
Dental disease can be an indicator of immune disorders particularly in cats.
Common indicators of oral disease in dogs include bad breath, a change in eating habits, pawing at the face or mouth and depression.

FAQ'S
These are some of the most common asked questions that I hear, I will try and answer them as best as I can, if you have any additional questions don’t hesitate to call or e-mail.

Q:    How is the dental cleaning done?

A:    The dental cleaning is done without the use of any anesthesia! I don’t use anything that may harm your pet. It is performed by simply cradling your pet in my lap, using safe and comfortable handling skills. It is not uncommon for a pet to become so relaxed during the cleaning that they fall asleep.

Q:    Are all pets able to have their teeth cleaned?

A:    No, due to certain health and/or behavioral problems some pets are not cable of having this procedure. In the event of either of these events, I will be more than happy to refer you to a veterinarian.

Q:    Some of my dog's teeth are loose. How do you clean their teeth if this happens?

A:    It is very common due to prolonged periods without cleaning for the teeth to develop play or movement. This is caused because the gums have receded. I will do my best to clean the loose teeth but because I will not do extractions, they might not be as polished as the none loose teeth. The loose teeth will generally fall out on their own, but if I feel they should be removed, I will recommend you to a vet.

Q:    Do you offer house calls?

A:    Yes, and I'm more than happy to. Some pets feel more relaxed at home, because of this they feel safer and more secure. Please contact me to schedule a house-call.
Q:    How long will it take to clean my dogs teeth?

A:    The amount of time it takes varies depending on amount of tarter and plaque buildup, and also the behavior of the pet. It can generally take between 20 to 45min to complete.

Q:    What methods of payment do you accept?

A:    I accept cash or check; I do not offer the use of credit cards, as I want to keep my price’s as low as possible. I care about the oral health of your pet and want to make this procedure as affordable as possible. Sorry if this cause’s any inconvenience.
Q:    Is there any signs or warnings that should alert me to call Wills Pet Dental?
